as i recall, i always just ran it off my skb pedal board with no trouble. anyway, i took it to a guitar shop to test out new tubes and the salesman was freaking out about using a one spot ac adaptor. im guessing i bought it new around 96 98 something like that. Phaser type effects before high-gain dirt can produce undesirable sonic side-effects too so for some they may be no better than phasers or vibes used after high-gain dirt.
The Bk butler tube driver is the quintessential overdrive/booster pedal and the tube driver MPN TDP-911 is ideal for any guitarist seeking not only a light, smooth overdrive tone, but also a classic-rock-style heavy distortion. hey guys, i recently was digging through some old boxes and found my chandler bk butler tube driver pedal. BK Butler Tube Driver or Effectrode Blackbird on the classic channel are my preferred units for this). The BK Butler comes as a tube driver model and can be used with these tubes, 12ax7, 12at7, and 12au6 preamp tubes.
Product Information:These are built like a tank, out of heavy gauge metal which is good RF shielding. It sounds the best with the tone controls dialed back to about 10 o'clock and moderate gain about 1-2 o'clockĪnd the volume about 1 o'clock and the tube bias to where ever you like it, IMO. This model with the tube bias control is the best he makes, IMO.
This hasn't left my smoke free studio since I purchased it several years ago. This unit is in mint condition so grab it while you can for your studio, or it is also road worthy.
They are all hand created by the BK Butler and are signed and serial numbered by the master himself. Very good tube driven overdrive, and David Gilmore also uses BK Butlers units. "Without Tube Driver, I simply cannot get my famous Violin Tone" - Eric Johnson You can experiment with different tubes in this guy, and it is very interesting to hear the difference. Oddly this pedal is AC and has its own electric plug, and this is BK Butler's special Bias Control model which allows you more control over the tube saturation and dynamics. One of Eric Johnson's secret weapons to get his 500 lb violin tone !!! Erich claims that he couldn't do it without this real tube overdrive pedal. Folks like EJ might request the Yugo tube, but a single click on any of the knobs would likely have 10x the tone-changing effect than the different tube does.Note: On the YouTube video with this listing, the Tube Driver is demoed 5:23 into the video, so if you want to see it without waiting for the first 5 min, you can scroll to 5:20 and only wait 3 seconds Ha Ha. Killer sounding OD, don't get me wrong, but the tube is far from being a significant part of the gain/EQ. So yes, you could get a very slight EQ difference going to a NOS/lower gain tube, but that pedal pretty much sounded 'as it sounds' regardless of tube. But as soon as the the gain was up even just a couple of clicks, the signal was squashed enough for it to not be bothering the tube. For the bias control my favorite settings are maximum for Gilmour tones and 10 notches below maximum for my original tones, which is roughly 2:30 on the knob.
The tube is basically used like a piece of studio outboard.you pass the signal through it for a little colour/vibe/warmth/*insert other tubey buzz word here*.Īt low gain, the transients were enough for the tube to have a tiny effect.you could just about hear the difference going to a lower gain tube. Hi Andrea, I have the BK Butler Tube Driver with bias mod as well, I use a NOS Yugo Real tube tho (12ax7). NOS, etc had almost zero effect on the sound. Swapping from an AX7 to AV7/AU7, modern vs. It's not a 'tube overdrive' in the way that pedals like Kingsley, Effectrode etc are.the clipping is done by an Op-Amp circuit, like most other ODs, and then the signal is passed through the tube on the output stage to add character. For what it's worth, and from my experimenting - the tube in the BK Butler has negligible effect on the sound.
